Rho Ophuichi With 300mm Lens

Hi everyone, I thought I would share my recent image of Rho Ophiuchi. With a full-frame camera and 300mm lens, the main body of Rho frames up quite nicely.

Here are some notes on equipment/processing:

Nikon D750 (Stock)
Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 AI-S ED lens
ISO 1600
AstroTrac TT320X-AG - no guiding

20 x 180" exposures (60 mins. total integration time)

Location: Cherry Springs Dark Sky Park (northern PA - Bortle 2)

RawTherapee, Deep Sky Stacker, Starnet++, RNC-Color-Stretch, & Photoshop.

I find that the free Starnet++ software does a great job of removing stars from an image, allowing you to stretch/maximize the dust and nebulosity that we all seek.  If you open both a starless and "stars-in" copy in Photoshop, you can add the stars back in later.  I found this worked really well for this image, and allowed me to work on enhancing local contrast and structure without blowing out the stars, and also the M4 star cluster.  Starnett++ can be downloaded for free here .
