Using Extension Tubes on a DX Camera

Hello All, I am uncertain about this and thought I'd ask here. I've looked through lots of threads and did not come up with the right one yet, same for articles online.

I have the NIkon 40mm f2.8 micro and would like to use it to get in closer. I have the 105mm which I really like and use often - it is the equivalent of 157mm on a 35mm camera and I'd like to bump the 40mm up a bit so it is somewhere in between the 40mm and 105mm. The 40mm micro is the equivalent of  60mm on a 35mm camera. Does the crop factor work the same when adding extenders? For example if I use a 12 mm extender on the 40mm lens does that make the lens 52mm or 78mm equivalent on a 35mm camera. And how does it affect the f-stops.

Thanks for the help!

Ken
