Sony here I come!
6

It looks like Sony is answering the call I have put out . . .

With such a camera coming, I don't see how I can justify spending $10,000 on a 100 MP Fuji, and since I already have an adapter to use my Sigma SA-mount lenses on a Sony body, it looks like I'll only be spending about 1/3 as much money on a body and very little extra money on lenses. (Who knows if I could have ever raised the money to get a Fuji GFX 100 anyway?)

I guess I should start with a used Sony A7r II for about $1,200.

If you're wondering what I'm thinking, it's this:

Over the past few years, I've been hoping that at least one of the big three camera companies (now the big four, considering Panasonic is now in the full-frame game, and they are a bigger company than even Canon) would make a camera with a sensor that captures more than 50 MP. It didn't happen, and it didn't seem like it was going to happen any time soon or possibly ever. Obviously at least some of the lenses are capable of resolving more detail than a typical 50 MP full-frame sensor can capture in a single shot, based on the results from the A7r III pixel-shift photo samples. Now Sony is launching a 61 MP camera, it shows me that the big three will indeed break the 50 MP "barrier" sooner rather than later, and I can avoid medium format (which is expensive, big, and heavy anyway). I hope the megapixel war is still on, and 61 MP doesn't become a new barrier. I'm already hoping someone will make a 65 MP sensor soon enough, followed by someone else making a 70 MP sensor.
