New 2 Z

The Z7 arrived yesterday from Amazon.

Was new (zero exposures and no finger prints).

I like it.  I like the size and feel, this camera is a joy to hold and use.

Low light AF is worse than the D850 and I can see needing the AF assist light.

Eye focus works well so far (limited experience with wife jumping up and down).

Using a thumb tighten removal Arca Swiss type plate to avoid the FTZ adaptor issue with plates.  I will just screw the plate on either the camera or FTZ when needed.  With  the D850 and all my other cameras historically I just left the plate on all the time.  This is so far not an inconvenience.

Image quality is terrific.

On tripod I am using a 3 second exposure delay.  What is everyone else doing?

Strange not having a mirror to lock up!

EVF is very good; hardly notice I’m not using an OVF unless the camera is off.

Like the U1, U2, U3:  set U1 for landscape, U3 for sports/wildlife, U2 for normal hand held roust about settings.

Adjusting the camera is quite different from the D850 generation; buttons in different places, setting in menus but not on buttons, etc.  Really have to read the manual.

Multi exposure, HDR, intervalometer yet to be tried.

SB800/SB900 flashes seem to work fine.

Z 7 becomes my main camera, D850 moves to sports/wildlife mode, old 24-70.2.8 moves onto the shelf.  I think the 85 f1.4 will get more use as focus is more accurate with the Z.

So far, very happy.
