Calibrated Monitor - Now What?

This may seem basic, but I am actually having a hard time finding out what to do now that I have calibrated my monitor.  Every video I can find showing how to calibrate your monitor shows how it is done and toggle between before and after.  But then what?  How does that change how you then print?  What do you do?  So my questions are:

1. So is my monitor colors adjusted automatically or is it that I just get a new profile for Lightroom?  What is the point of the new profile if I am going to use some paper profile anyway?

2. Do I have to adjust all my photos under the same calibrated lighting conditions going forward or calibrate again if light changes?  What about my old photos?

If someone can explain in simple terms what the steps are from calibration to printing, would appreciate.

I used Spydsr 5.
