How do cameras come back from the dead?

How do cameras which have been discontinued suddenly reappear on the market in large numbers?

Case in point: the Panasonic ZS50, which dates from 2015, was discontinued many months ago.  You can't buy it on the Panasonic website.

It disappeared from B&H, Amazon and elsewhere (except for the odd one held by a speculator and put up for resale at an inflated price).

This situation existed for months.  Now, suddenly the ZS50 has reappeared on Amazon, B&H and other retailers (not at Adorama, however).  Brand new and heavily discounted from the launch price.

How does this work?  Did a "missing" warehouse full of brand new ZS50s get rediscovered someplace?

If anyone knows the ins and outs of camera distribution, I would love to learn how this works.
