Hi Guys,

I currently have the XH1 + 16-55 on my gear at the moment, i tried to find some thread about the 8-16mm but there are not much discussions about it.

I have the opportunity to get one less than the price of 16-55 but contemplating if it is worth it and would appreciate some feedback on the lens performance as well..

Thanks in advance!

It's too expensive for most people to even contemplate and it's a specialist lens.

It depends on what you intend to shoot with it. I once did some interior shots of a home for a realtor and would have loved to have had something wider than the 10-20mm I was using. Other than that the long end (12-16mm) could be useful for landscape photography, but the 10-24mm would have a better range for landscapes, IMO. If you get the 8-16mm let us know what you think of it.

Here is one review of it. https://www.cameralabs.com/fujifilm-fujinon-xf-8-16mm-f2-8-r-lm-wr-review/

Everyone who got one is busy shooting :-P

If you would like to shoot really wide then yes, it is worth every penny. I personally don't find it heavy or large at all; the downside is that you need 145mm filters for it. Performance-wise it is amazing to my eyes but then I haven't done any brick wall tests so I can only speak of my impressions when shooting real photos :-)

I had a similar opportunity myself and I passed. In the end, it’s size defeats the purpose I have a Fuji camera. Also 8mm is extremely wide and very difficult to use making it a very specialistic lens when compared to the 10-24 or a Sammy 12

Probably because it's to expensive for most people :P

It does seem like an amazing lens, though. I shoot landscape and some astro so for me it would have been perfect :) It is however both too expensive and too heavy for my taste.

Interesting.. i thought there weren't any filter threads on the lens.

There's no filter thread on the lens itself. I got a Fotodiox WonderPana adapter for it. Slide adapter from the front (no need to remove the lens) and off you go. With the filters on it look like you attached a dinner plate in front of your lens but hey, it's ultra wide so there's no way around physics :-)

Hi.

I would likely buy it at this price, as an UWA zoom complementary to my 16-55.

IMHO, the 8-16 would open up a whole new world of possibilities for wide-angle photography. Normally, since it is so expensive, I would wait for a Fujifilm sale, as they recently had 8-16 at $500 USD off (if I recall correctly).

PFB Jonas Rask’s review and image samples.

Thank you and kindest regards.

16mm is about as wide as I'll ever shoot, if I was into wider angle though, if I shot a lot of architecture, astro photography and broad landscape then it might be worth it. But unless I was using it a lot at night or in dim lighting then the 10-24 is a fraction of the cost and you're usually stopping down for architecture and landscape anyway

Its too specific IMO... I am fine with the 10-24, and I would be fine with a 12-35 even more. 8mm is REALLY wide…
