Using expanded low ISO settings?

What if anything is the disadvantage of using the expanded low ISO settings? I usually shoot the D850 in manual with auto ISO sensitivity set to 64. When the shutter set is to 1/1000-1/2000 and aperture set to f2.8-f4 there are erratic times, unnoticed during fast action, when the ISO maxes out at 64 and the shot/s are over exposed. What would be the drawback of allowing auto ISO to use Lo1 to keep from over exposing? Wouldn't it make for less blown highlights?
