I find myself in need of a monitor for a one-time effort to color correct some of my images for CMYK. I have a 2012 iMac and a 2016 MacBook Pro.

Would really prefer not to buy a new monitor for this one task but I will if I have to.

I have the XRITE i1 Display color Calibration tool (arrives Monday).

Do I need a new monitor?

Hi,

Monitors only work in RGB, never CMYK. The particular CMYK colour space you are using (and there are many!) will be converted to the monitor's own colour space by the editing software, such as Photoshop.

Your monitors will both probably just about encompass most of the popular CMYK colour spaces' colour gamuts.

Some info here:

You don't say which CMYK colour space you'll be using? If you're not familiar with CMYK you need to be very careful to select the correct ICC Profile, etc.

Suggest you read this article on Soft Proofing:

Cheers,

Phil
