Which long zooms don't degrade at 400-600mm?

You've seen the resolution charts. Long zooms soften after about 300mm so that resolution for a given area either doesn't improve much, or at all, or may (in the worst case) even drop past 300mm. For lesser 70-300mm zooms, it can even mean the last 50-75mm affords no gains. Which means, you lug around an extra 100-200mm and the size that entails for no reason. Anyone know of any that hold their own so that the long end is truly beneficial or is the solution to go to a prime?
