I own both the 50mm 1.8G and 50mm 1.8D as well. Like another poster mentioned, due to the price, they're both kind of disposable and you can't really go wrong with either. I use the D version on my F5 and D700 most often and my G I only use on my D810. The G is great wide open and quite good the rest of the aperture range. The D version is softer wide open but improves quite a bit stopped down, and is great the rest of the aperture range.

They are both good lenses and you won't be disappointed by either one.
