The end of "Sony Zeiss" lenses?
4

So just a bit of an observation really..

In the early days of the FE mount, it seemed to be every other lens released was a Sony Zeiss based one. A lot of posts I've seen on this forum suggested Sony was partnering with Zeiss to help accelerate getting various lenses and focal length to market in order to rapidly "cover the bases" - all of which sort of makes sense.

Taking a quick look, Sony Zeiss (full frame) lenses released are as follows;

  • 2013: 3
  • 2014: 2
  • 2015: 1
  • 2016: 1
  • 2017: 0
  • 2018: 0
  • 2019: 0

To me, that looks like Sony is no longer releasing Sony Zeiss lenses, and has instead opted to run with the standard/G/GM line ups going forward.

That also makes me wonder if this could suggest a 35 & 50 GM on the cars..
