Another for the 18-35G

I have the same issue of weight/quality versus output and a need to stay with Nikon, despite the pull of jumping to Fuji.

2 years ago I travelled to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. My main lens was a 24-120 - and almost everything past 100mm was unusable... soft as butter in the corners. This year I'm doing HK to Japan and I have spent months on honing my travel kit and have ended up with the following:

18-35 G - lightweight, wide, tack sharp - the ideal street lens.

Why is the 18-35 a better choice than the much wider 16-35?

The 18-35 only weighs 385g and it's compact. I've stopped using my 17-35 f2.8

I have the 24-120 f4 and I wouldn't say it's unusable at the tele end. However I do prefer the 24-85 if I don't need the tele end too much (I sold the VR version - what a fool - but I still have the non-VR version which looks like a 50mm)
