I have a solution that I used successfully in the past. Go buy yourself a grey (neutral) sheet at the photo store and take a picture of it under the same lighting conditions. Then take you real picture and use the grey card color to apply the proper lighting setting.

There is always something to shoot/snap, you just have to know how to do it and have the right gear.
