Do you have access to an old Windows XP machine (or older) , or Mac OS X 10.4 or older ?
If so , download the drivers from Minolta and try it on it's original software .
Download it here ; https://www.konicaminoltasupport.com/index.php?id=3089&L=2%3Cbr
You can set your Windows 10 etc, P.C up as a virtual PC and install it on that , if you know how .
I couldn't figure that out , so instead I have both an old desktop P.C and a laptop P.C that are running on Windows XP for when I want to use my Minolta DiMage Scan Dual IV , a flatbed scanner for 10"x8" film and some other items of old hardware .
.
The fact it was running fine in the free trial version of vuescan suggests the scanner is fine , as long as it hasn't since been dropped for example .
Not running with the new , paid version seems there's an issue with the software or how you've set it up .
Emailing vuescan would be worth it .
Interesting that this subject came up: I started using my 5400 after a brief hiatus and found the going a bit weird. At first I thought the problem might have to do with a the Grain Dissolver mechanism getting stuck intermittently, as switching it off and restarting the scanner seemed to bring things back to normal. But given the mention of there being no issues using a demo version of VS I'm now curious about there possibly being a software angle in this glitch. (I'm on an old Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.8, ancient but reliable.) I recently got an Epson V800 to supplement the 5400 (which remains my mainstay for critical 35mm scanning, but it IS 16 years old), and recently inherited two Nikon Coolscans–5000 & 8000–so there's a lot of sorting out going on here. Worst come to worst, I should have *something* that works at any given time.
