What would be a good beginner’s microphone for shooting video of infants on the EOS R?

I almost never shot video before this, but I knew the built-in mic was bad. I didn’t realize it was this bad, however! I don’t want to spend a lot of money on this—I just blew my gear budget on an RF 50L—but I do want to raise the sound to a tolerable level.

Based on casual browsing of the products, it seems that I should go for a shotgun-style mic instead of a stereo one, since I’d want to selectively pick up the sound from the infant (and perhaps whomever is holding her). If I’m not understanding this correctly, please advise me.

Also, since I also have an EOS M5, it would be a plus if the mic also works on that body. I don’t believe this is a problem for any mic, but if there is something I should be aware of, I’d appreciate hearing about that too.

I have been using "Rode VideoMicro" it is very good for the money, ($59) very easy to use and really small.

Same here on my RP. Massive improvement over the builtin mic, especially with 'old' USM lenses like the 85/1.8.
