Anyone using the AF Micro Nikkor 60mm F/2.8D ?
Jun 30, 2019
I just bought this lens on ebay, from a 99.7% feedback seller (actually, a Pawn shop) advertised as "In Excellent Condition. Works Great" and it does look great, despite the finger prints and oil on the rear element. That cleaned up okay, but the Manual Focus mechanism feels very stiff, almost tight! I do realize that there is a lot of front element and housing movement in this lens, but of my 18+ Nikon mount lenses, none are this stiff. Also, with my other Nikon lenses from this era, when I turn the Focus ring, I see the Screw Drive in the rear spinning rapidly. It doesn't spin on this 60mm Micro Nikkor when turning the focus ring, but it does move to focus components, when turning the Drive Screw with a small screwdriver.
I didn't find out that it was a Pawn Shop until I saw the Paypal receipt, but even Pawn shops generally check items well, when they buy them! I haven't mounted it on any of my bodies yet, for fear of straining the body motor. (I use D810 & D700 for Full Frame). If anyone has this older lens, can you tell me if this is normal? I paid $180 + $9 Shipping and sales tax, so sending it out for CLA, is not in my budget. Many like New lenses have been sold recently in this price range, so I expected it to be okay. Btw, it was well packed, but they never had a rear cap for it. I assume it came in attached to a body. Maybe that was how they tested it, but I'm still waiting for a reply from the seller. (Note: I did ask them to, and they did put a Plastic Cup on the rear, to protect it). I appreciate any input dpreview members may have. Thanks, ...Joe
