I honestly don't know why people do this... the risk is WAY too high for any reward.  I don't even like loaning out my gear to family members or good friends I've known for decades.  That's why we have places like LensRentals who are willing to take the risk of gear getting stolen, but t then again, they also take a more appropriate approach to this: they keep your card on file and charge you if they need to (ie. if you don't get the insurance and don't return the gear, and/or file a claim with law enforcement).  Either way, the other rental companies out there have this figured out.

KitSplit is a bad idea from the start and NOBODY should use this service.  I'm surprised people are still using it even after the one big story here on DPR a year ago (or so).
