A Question About Extension Tubes

Hi,

I was thinking about making a film negative copier using my camera. Light source via a flash soft box.

Using my camera's macro option I can get in quite close, but I understand adding extension tubes to the lens/camera will get you very close. I saw these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Black-Extension-cameras-Nikkor/dp/B00ABST1UQ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Neewer+Auto+Focus+Macro+Extension+Tube+Set+for+nikon&qid=1561483966&s=electronics&sr=1-1

How effective are they and will they get you up close to the film negative? I'm using a kit 18-55mm lens; the newer updated one with the 55mm lens thread:

https://www.nikon.co.uk/en_GB/product/nikkor-lenses/auto-focus-lenses/dx/af-p-dx-nikkor-18-55mm-f-3-5-5-6g-vr#tech_specs

Very tight budget here, and considered the extension tubes were cheaper than a dedicated film copier. Plus my camera has 24MP which most run of the mill copiers seem not to be (without digital up-scaling), so I expect better results.

What are your opinions and any examples?

Thanks in advance
