I have two EOS Rs - for about 4-5 months now. I've had maybe 2 or 3 freezes. Usually just power off / on, and that fixes it. Is annoying when it happens, but is pretty rare. I always use Sandisk Extreme Pro (UHS-1) cards. I always format in-camera. I have 64GB and 256GB cards.

Hi , why do you use UHS-1 instead off the much faster UHS-2

I've found that the Sandisk Extreme Pro cards - UHS-1 - work just fine for recording everything I need on the EOS R and 5D4 - INCLUDING 4K. It all started when I only had the 5D Mark IV: I got a 256GB CF card and a 256GB SD card. Since the 5D4 only supports UHS-1, my only option was the UHS-1 card. I was a little surprised when I found the SD card worked just fine for recording the 5D4 4K video (HUGE files). When I got the EOS R, I figured I'd try the card and see if it worked for EOS R 4K also... and it did. So I bought more of the UHS-1 cards, and they've all worked great for 4K.

Gravy: The Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-1 256GB SD card currently on sale at B&H for $65... smokin' deal!

Yes nice, but i think the better the card ….. well you can fill in the blanks.

I use USH-2 300mb per second cards.
