D500 file numbering going wrong?

Yesterday my file numbering had to jump from 9999 back to 0001. When I later checked the files I noticed I had 3 folders on my memory card. 100ND500 with the last of the 9000-numbers. 101ND500 with the first 120 or so 0001-numbers. But also 102ND500 with a set of other pictures also starting at 0001 but with other files and other timestamps.

I have to explain that I work with custom Photo shooting menu banks and Custom setting banks. But for all Custom setting banks I made sure that d7 File number sequence is ON.

Saturday evening, when dawn set in, I switched to one of my Photo shooting menu's dedicated to evening photography. The switch to 0001 had taken place 0121 shot before that time. Now I see that when from the time I switched the Photo shooting menu the counting started again with 0001 until I switch back to my normal daytime setting. The camera then restarted to count at 0122.

Yesterday I remembered that I switched my file name prefix from AHE to AHF. As this is a system I use.

The situation on de memory card is now as follows:

100ND100:

AHE9924 (20190622, 10:47) - AHE9999 (20190622, 20:28)

100ND101:

AHE0001 (20190622, 20:29) - AHE0121 (20190622, 22:16)

AHE0122 (20190623, 11:25) - AHE0235 (20190623, 15:36)

100ND102:

AHE0001 (20190622, 22:18) - AHE0057 (20190623, 11:04)

AHF0236 (20190623, 22:53) - AHF0249 (20190623, 23:10)

  • Like I said, I checked if in all memory settings the setting for d7 File number sequence is ON.
  • I also am aware that a new folder will be created while jumping from 9999 to 0001.
  • I can not find if that also happens when you switch your file naming.
  • Do I miss something or has there been some glitch?

Help and suggestions would be appreciated!
