I don't understand exposure.

Hello everyone.

I'm comparing two photos that I took today. One photo was taken with a Nikon D5300 body, and the other with a D7100 body. Aside from the body, every single thing I could think of was the same. The same exposure compensation, image size, image resolution, (Don't these two bodies have ~ the same sensor?), the same shutter speed, the same aperture, the same ISO setting, the same focal length, with the same lens, as similar framing as I could get, with the same lighting, taken maybe one or two minutes apart.

I simply don't understand why the d5300 image is so much brighter (and sharper) than the d7100 image. What am I missing?

Additional shots, d5300 using the nikon 18-55 and d7100 using the Tokina 18-28. Both 1/50s, f8, 800 iso.
