Split-screen display zoom with DoF preview?

I believe the only way to get a DoF preview for apertures smaller than f/5.6 is to assign "Preview" to a programmable button. I've decided to move White Balance to the i menu, and put Preview on f1.

The Split-screen display zoom function seems like it would be useful when, for example, one would like to optimize focus for two locations in the image, say, foreground subject and distant mountains. But what if one is shooting at an aperture smaller than f/5.6? With Split-screen display zoom activated, pressing f1 (assigned to Preview, as described above) does not appear to do anything.

Am I missing an easy solution? Is there any way to get DoF preview at apertures smaller than f/5.6 when in Split-screen display zoom?

Thanks
