Re: My favorite kind of shot.........

Looks like a European Wool Carder Bee, there are about six of them patrolling my Lavender. Haven't tried shooting them in flight, but I do take a few shots above 1x. It's been so warm here that even early in the morning they only sit still for about a minute before getting active. They use their jaws primarily for clamping onto plant stems when they snooze:

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (above 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC, second curtain sync). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I'm holding on to the Lavender stem with my left hand, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep the scene steady.

They also chatter their mandibles when they are trying to get their metabolism going. You might also see their abdomen move, like they're hyperventilating (and they probably are), when they are trying to wake up. I managed to get an "action shot" when one of them woke up and paused for a brief second.

I've never been bitten by them, so I don't think they use them offensively unless their fighting with another bee over territory.
