Primes and the EOS R / RP
1

Since I started using the R in the last quarter of 2018 and the RP a few months ago, I've come to prefer prime lenses again. I say again because there was a time when I preferred prime lenses too, which was the first months of my having owned the wonderful 6D.

My renewed fling with primes is largely because of the portability factor. The RP, for example, with the EF28mm or the RF35mm, is so light and small that I can carry it all day without fatigue. I can tag my R along with the EF85mm, and I still feel that it's a combo that's lighter than my previous 5DMIV with a slew of lenses. In fact, my camera bag (unless I am carrying a drone) has gotten smaller.

Another reason for me is the availability of crop factor in both mirrorless bodies. The few instances I needed reach, my 85mm becomes 130ish, and while I won't be able to take award-winning Moon shots with it, it's at least very usable when I want to be more subtle in doing street photography in a crowded place. This crop factor feature, while reduces MP, allows me to compose properly, versus cropping on an FF output.

Are you rediscovering your like/love of primes too since owning these mirrorless wonders?
