are the ultra line reliable

I suppose it depends on what you're going to do with the card. If you check on various dash-cam forums, you'll find that Sandisk Ultra has a terrible reputation for dash-cam usage, which involves heavy writing and overwriting (hundreds or even thousands of times) of huge volumes of video data. Whether that's at all relevant to usage in still photography, I don't know.

Reliability in the consumer-grade SD world isn't something that's easily determined. In the high-priced world of commercial- and industrial-grade SD cards, the manufacturers describe what technologies are used, which at least gives you a clue.

Anyway... for my personal usage, I'd be okay with an Ultra because if a card goes bad and I lose the photos on it, it's no big deal. My pictures aren't important. Even so, I still go for at least an Extreme because I just don't want the hassle.
