I suspect that what B&H gets out of this is having part or all of the expense of the rebates shouldered by the credit card issuer.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Net margins on expensive items are not always that high. If you're making a 5% net profit margin before rebate, and you pay an 8% rebate, you're "losing money on every sale and making it up in volume."  So if you can get the card issuer to pay for the rebates, it makes a difference.
