Samples of tracking "bird take off" using AF-Area mode
1

I wanted to know whether I can use AF-Area mode for tracking the take off of the bird. When I say tracking, I mean the "tracking rectangle" provided in AF-Area mode. "tracking rectangle" appears once we press OK button. I placed this "tracking rectangle" on a bird that is sitting idle, and pressed AF-ON button. Now camera started tracking the bird and "tracking rectangle" turned from white-to-yellow. Then I waited until bird took off and fired few shots as soon as bird took off. I grabbed at the max 3 shots, and they were well focused. I was using monopod.

NOTE: I tried similar test using Wide-Area mode, and the output was not as good as as the output given by AF-Area mode.

I am happy about the result and plan to use to this in field.
