This is true! Performance mode is like having your engine revving at red line all the time even if you're just parking on the driveway. More details and explanation in this video:

I watched the video. Now I am wondering. In the video guy says that speed ramps up very quickly. I am wondering if there is a setting to make it slow down very quickly.
