Nikon 105mm f/1.4E Calibration

Yesterday I received new Nikon 105mm f/1.4E.
While it seemed to be close to spot on on 1.4 I felt it might need some +/-5 calibration.
It turns out it needed +10, now it seems to be razor sharp at all distances.
Auto focus is bit slower than modern competition, but also smooth and precise. It gives me confidence i never had before. Whatever I shoot at 1.4 it's simply sharp and in focus.
How can that be?

My question is, is there some generally best target distance to make calibration? Of course I bought this for shooting portraits so I wont be calibrating it against an island, but i want to know if there is some smartest distance to make cal. Reading about focus shift issue got me little confused so I stepped back a little from MFD and to be exact it was 1.45meters (145cm).

While it seems that I done it right, i would not wanted to be surprised on the field making things even worse.
Thank you for any advice.
