Re: Compared to M1 this camera just excels

I love my little M100, and if I could find another one for €280  I'd snap it up instantly!

I'd love to know where you got it (and when) so cheap.

I was using Canon EOS M for years (M1). At the time when this camera appears on the market, I was reading other users reviews, mostly from professionals and the general overview is that - it is an excellent camera companion for big and heavy DSLR.

M1 was slow on focusing, very slow, and image quality was not great comparing to other cameras in its class - it was heaving some weird artifacts in the image. I was using an 18-55 and 22 mm lens.

One night I was shooting night photography when the camera fell off the tripod and stopped working. Looking for a replacement, I narrowed the selection to several models and then I saw EOS M 100 for €280 (new!) with 15-45. I've changed my mind and I was for Canon EOS M again. I have a 22 mm lens already, several batteries...

To be honest, I was not expecting much, mostly because of the reviews I have read (which later makes me think - are those honest or biased?).

M 100 compared to M (M1) excel in just every aspect. It focuses super fast, image quality is excellent and it does not lack any features which M1 had. In fact, all are accessible over the menus on a touch screen.

Where this camera excels too is an auto mode. In most cases, I am not using any of the programmed modes because simply there is no reason to. Camera do it just right!

My usual routine with M1 was to shoot in raw and then to fix images in Lightroom. With M 100 I do not need to in most of the cases! And even better - JPG is perfect. Now I am shooting both RAW and JPG, but I am deleting 99% of RAW images because JPG is simply perfect.

I will return to price once again - I got it for €280 with 14-45 lens. If I am to buy this lens only, it will cost the same.

Finally, what do I like on this camera more comparing with M1: it is the kit lens. With M1 kit lens was 18-55, but with M 100 it is 15-45. 15 mm is excellent and it makes really wide photos. I love it. When light is low, I am using 22 mm (F2).

What M 100 has better than M1 (remember, it was often chosen by professional photographers at that time as a light camera) is noise. While M1 has trouble with ISO 800 and above, M 100 is having trouble with ISO 6400 and above while ISO 3200 is very useful.

Finally (the list of "what's better" just goes and goes) - colors. Colors are a bit different but incredible natural. Then sharpness - very good. Then how fast it is - again excellent.

This camera just excels in every aspect and when looking at the price range, nothing can come even close.

As a user who made lots of shots with M1 and just a few hundreds with M 100 I have only good words for this camera.
