There are three modes with the EVF/OVF which are selected with the front lever:

a. Straight EVF, which gives you what the sensor sees and you can use the exposure compensation dial to adjust exposure and see how it affects the image.

b. OVF, which gives you a 35mm equivalent framing box. Some of the lens will intrude into the OVF view, but this will not be in the actual image taken.

c. With OVF and singlepoint AF selected, you can flick the the lever to the left and see a small box appear in the lower right of the OVF which shows you the central part of the image. This box is magnified and is useful for manual focussing.
