I don't know if you upgraded the firmware of your Sigma 100-400, but you should do it. The upgrade greatly improved the OS of that lens. I chose the Sigma 100-400 over the Nikon 200-500 mainly because of the smaller size and lighter weight. I could see myself getting a Nikon 200-500, but would likely only use it if mounted on a tripod.

I am curious as to what you think of the D7500. (Edit: I guess the fact that you got a D500 instead indicates you weren't entirely happy with it.) A rep from Nikon loaned me a D7500 for a couple of hours during a bird photo walk. Sweet camera! I would get a D7500 at the amazing reduced price right now if it wasn't for the fact that personal finances don't allow for it right now.

BTW - nice photo of that American Bittern. I have only seen and taken photos of that type of bird once, and none of my photos are as good as the one you posted. Well done!

Yes, the 100-400 was updated and i have the USB Dock to AFT.

I was more than happy with the Sigma and I have great shots from it. But as I said initially, I wished Sigma did a 100-500. i have no regrets with it but since getting a good copy of the 200-500 the extra 100mm compensates for the added weight for me.

I am not saying the Nikon is better than the Sigma either, each has their place.
