XE 2 with 35mm 1.4 is my suggestion... can pick it up for 600 bucks.

I find F2 still can be too slow in low light situations.

AF isn't that necessary, it's good enough. You aren't photographing a running dog, but a crawling or not moving much baby... and you likely won't want to use a flash on them... or they might be in a dark area of a room not near a window in their crib...
