Recent new dad here. I started with an M43 camera to photograph the labor and birth. Quickly realized it wasn't really up to snuff, but I wasn't heavily invested in the system, and the camera I had (EM10 mki) was relatively old.

I jumped head first into Fuji. I picked up an X-T20 used along with the rather good 18-55 f/2.8-4 for around $750. I then got a 35mm f/1.4 new as well as a FlashPoint (godox 350) fuji flash for $60.

My general advice is just get the camera and a prime lens, and a cheap flash to bounce. Since getting the 35mm, I've barely used the 18-55 for the newborn stuff. The 35mm f/1.4 is not blisteringly fast, but it is fast enough for now when she's not moving much. I eventually plan to upgrade to the X-T30 to add to it's AF speed.

Take a lot of pictures and invest in somewhere that you can upload them all.
