Here are some shots that show how hard it can be to see some of the wildlife underwater. Some camouflage is defensive in nature, but most of what I show here is for ambush predators.

If someone has some examples of octopus and the like changing to match a background, I'd love to see some posts.

We start with a couple of less-than-successful attempts at hiding. Seems kind of silly, but just moving to the other side of an object can be quite useful.

Trumpetfish always swim behind some obstruction as you try to approach.

This Lionfish didn't fool me!

Decorator Crabs: These crabs disguise themselves to look like a bit of coral, I assume to catch unsuspecting prey. Even when you get a closeup shot of these crabs they are hard to see as crabs.

Even when you can see the claws and eyes, it still doesn't look like a crab!
