Which is more important: IQ or subject matter?

I often find myself grabbing my Nikon D750 when I have a paid job to do, and my Panasonic GX85 (m/43) for casual shooting or vacations.

Because I, like so many people here, seem to have become obsessed with pixel-peeping. So I asked myself: Which is more important ... Image quality or subject matter?

Two examples: a) What if I took a picture of a trash can with such image quality, clarity and lighting that it makes you feel you could reach out and touch it,

Or, b) What if I took a picture of a man in the process of falling backward after catching a baby thrown from a three-story building on fire -- but this photo was slightly out-of-focus and had poor lighting.

Which photo would impress you the most?
