So the problem is the great difference between the indoor light and outdoor light.  For a natural solution (not using post-processing) the trick is find some way to make them more similar.  You could shoot when it's almost dark outside.  Or you could do like the pro and add lights to the inside.

Or you could merge multiple photos with layers, one photo correctly exposed for the interior and the other being correctly exposed for the exterior.

Or you could shoot a series of bracketed shots and use HDR processing to merge them.
