edorf_71, the OP, wondered about extension rings. The following was taken with the 50mm f2 with the MCEX-11 ring. I think (I hope) it shows that the rings enable you to take interesting shots with an ordinary lens. The 50mm + MCEX-11 makes for a very compact and light 'travel macro' solution:
