Most people think this is good or bad depending on what they want. Canon would need to do a survey of APS-C users to determine how many want the bigger lenses and smaller sensor. My guess is that it would be a few that want the extra "reach", but the majority of APS-C users want smaller cameras, don't care or don't know the difference.

Smaller sensors do not give anything like "reach". The crop factor has no power at all in getting more subject detail. It is pixel density that gets more subject detail from a certain distance. An 80MP FF R-series camera would have more of this so-called "reach" than any current APS-C, and being mirrorless, crop mode would be transparent to the user, with higher magnification in the EVF.

Canon needs to increase pixel count in FF mirror-less before it obsoletes APS_C mirrorless.

Well there is the rumored 60+ MP FF RF camera coming up. 60MP in crop mode would give you more than enough to work with, so 80MP is a bit of an overkill. Unless you use it in crop mode only would would be generating images that are way way way to big in general, bringing your PP down to a crawl. And if you are a cloud user in terms of image storage... good luck with that.

Heck, 45MP is good enough to give enough to work with in crop mode.
