Probably because their kid is in focus while all of the other kids are out of focus which makes their kid the subject of the photo and not just one of many kids in the photo.

Most of my pictures are of kids colliding and pushing and of all the contact in soccer. There are always multiple kids.

If the DOF isn't that thin then maybe they're oohing and aahing about something else in your photos.

I think some parents don't realize how much of a contact sport Soccer is.   Some don't know the amount of shoving and grabbing that goes on.  I like to get the expressions on the players faces as they are "fighting " for the ball or crashing to the ground.  The thrill of victory and agony of defeat.
