A7II steady shot sensor vibration issue

Since two months my A7II developed an issue where upon half pressing the shutter, with steady shot turned on, the sensor starts vibrating.
It's almost as if the camera gets some bad readings of movements that don't exist.
It doesn't happen all the time – I'd say about half of my images are affected. They are  rendered useless as they have motion blur or double exposure-like artifacts/ghosting introduced by this.
I can replicate this when mounting the camera on a tripod too.
Switching steady shot off solves this.
This is not an option for me though.
I only shoot with fast, manual primes. Mostly social dance in very low light. So in-body stabilization is a key feature I rely on for my work.
Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Cheers,

.mm
