Most ppl here answer the wrong question - it is not about replacing an M mount, but to add an RF APS-C model.

Guys, if you are all worried abou the size and claim that the size matters, what chance do you give to those, wishing for a 7D III in its eventual mirrorless form? Ergonomics wise, it has to be bigger than your M sized camera anyway. Hence an RF mount based APS-C model makes a lot of sense imo.

What you also seem to forget is, that there is basically no upgrade path with your M mount. Yes, so far, you can still use EF lens, but how long will Canon release their new versions? Also - once you go RF way, you simply can't use that lens on an M mount. There's so many ppl out there imo, who used such an advantage in the DSLR world, our studio included ....

I don’t think there are that many. Regardless, the real question is whether a large enough APS-C market will exist in future to support two APS-C mounts. Canon think the overall market is shrinking significantly, so I’d wager they don’t think there is.
