Re: SX710 vs G9 X Mark II
I own the sx730 and g9xII and IMO no reason to mess with sx710 when you can now buy a sx740 (or a sx730 for $200 for a refurb).
The reason to get a sx730/740 is for the crazy long zoom. It will not give good low light performance and will not give you as good image quality as the g9xII or g7xII. These 1/2.3" cameras really need good light.
The reason to get the g9xII is for extremely light and thin while still having excellent 1" sensor. It's fun to use just cuz it's so tiny and light and has snappy performance.
The reason to get a g7xII over a g9xII (I know you didn't mention G7xII ) is for excellent manual controls and a bit better lens and a few other features. It will give surprisingly good low light performance. Image quality is very similar to g9xII but you can do a lot more with g7xII. Also note that g7xII max aperture is much better as you zoom in than g9xii and focal range is wider. Things you are used to doing with a DSLR -like ultra close macro shooting just to name something- you can still do with g7xII. So u probably won't feel as tied down as to what you can do compared to DSLR. G9xII is more limited in this regard.
Sale prices for a refurb g7xII (my recommendation) on Canon's website range from $429-$480 depending on the day you check the website. Main drawback of g7xII is bulkier (about the same size as sx730) and much heavier than g9xII. U can go to best buy or similar to handhold in person to compare if u like.
