American Goldfinches

Our townhouse complex has a number of water features. The local American Goldfinches seem to be particularly keen on the one spot where there is a little "stream" connecting a small pond with a fountain to a bigger pond. The seem to like the water running over the river stones as it allows them to stand and shallow running water and bathe to their heart's content. After a washing, they fly up and preen/dry themselves in a bush/small tree right next to the stream. This allows some candid preening shots of what I think are very pretty little birds.

Sometimes they can look rather bedraggled:

And sometimes just downright pretty:

Sometimes the can camouflage themselves:

And sometimes they can even do a fan dance!

Peeking coyly from underneath the fan:

Or play peek..... um "beak"-a-boo?

The Goldfinch equivalent of biting your nails?

And sometimes they do not just do preening, they do de-tailing:

Entertaining little creatures!
