Does increasing ISO reduce the range of details & tones captured?

Does increasing ISO reduce the range of details & tones captured?

I think just by looking at my higher ISO pictures that it does. Assuming that's true I'd be interested if anyone could explain why?

I should say in the interest of a fair comparison lets say i can choose two exposure triangle settings for the same shot that both give a full exposure, one with ISO 100 and the second one with ISO 800 to allow a faster shutter speed. It seems to me that the second one with ISO 800 captures less details in the shadows and highlights and seems to have a reduced range of tones in-between the two too.
