Price comes into it too, in how close you can buy the 24-105 for. I was in the same situation as you, but whilst at Heathrow airport in the UK the duty free curry’s had the 24-105 for £999 and as it was the last one I got it for £880  which is very close to the UK street price for the Tammy 28-75.

I’m happy with the 24-105, I’ve used a zoom that starts at 28mm in the past and it doesn’t work for me as a travel zoom. The build quality of the Sony is also excellent, with better weather sealing. I think image quality is equal between the two, and it’s worth pointing out that DOF/background blur is basically the same for 75mm @ 2.8 than it is for 105mm @ F4, so light permitting you don’t lose any portrait ability with the Sony, in fact 105mm is a much more attractive focal length than 75mm for facial compression so it’s probably a better portrait solution.

I also have have the Batis 85mm, and will soon be getting the Samyang 35mm 1.4 or 45mm 1.8 to give me real low light benefit, as sometimes even the F2.8 on the Tamron won’t be enough indoors
