Yes, an excellent and good-value lens.

And I wish to say the same thing about the EF 100mm f/2 USM.

(Canon the greedy, unlike other manufacturers, does not include lens hoods for its non-L lenses. The two above happen to share the same lens hood. I purchased one to share between them. By the way, the design of this lens hood is cheap: its snaps in place but turns around rather loosely, instead of fitting tightly after a reassuring "click".)

i don't own a canon 100 f2.0 USM macro lens

What I was referring to is not a macro lens. Details here.

but i do hear lots of praise from the owners! i had a choice between getting a canon 100 f2.0 macro and a zeiss 100mm f2.0 Makro Planer and i settled for zeiss. but could not lose having either one. the only a few differences between the 2 macro lenses, which are: zeiss is manual focus, non-IS, 1:2 magnification and much better built lens but a 1/3 higher in price but it is just a matter of taste, and like i said, one cannot lose with either one.

Again, I was not talking about a macro lens.

I use my EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens strictly for macro photography. (I have tried it on a few portraiture occasions, but was not happy with the results. I have other lenses more suitable for the purpose: EF 85/1.8, EF 100/2, EF 135/2L.)

my apologies for the confusion here, Kaso! i think we have established that 85 f1.8 USM is a great value for those who don't have the budget for hefty 85 f1.4/85 f1.2 behemoth.

but my response was also to your 100 f2.0 remark, which I mistook for EF 100 f2.8 L IS macro (i am not a morning person) i thank you for correction.
