Just in case anyone is wondering, setting D5 appears to use:

  • EFCS for 1/250 and slower
  • Mechanical shutter for 1/320 and faster

Personally, I think this was a bad decision. I think they should have had the switch to mechanical shutter closer to 1/200, unless someone can think of a reason why they did this.

(based on my few minutes of experimentation with a single lens on the Z6).

I was expecting the auto shutter to switch to mechanical at HSS speeds.

Max flash sync speed in the Z6 and Z7 is 1/200, so that should be where it should be at, but I guess they're just making room for a camera that will eventually have 1/250 flash sync speed.

I'm fine with just 1/250. Any higher will cause blurring with third party lenses at higher shutter speeds with fast moving subjects. The Tamron 70-200 G2 is giving me problems even at 1/1000.
