Hello:

According to the suggested lenses “more suited” to use with the Sigma SD Quattro Mirrorless cameras,

here in this list:

https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/popups/sa-mount_list/

Operation:

AF may not be accurate
in some cases due to the conditions
of the subject or shooting distance.

It is possible to shoot
in AF mode, yet focusing speed and
accuracy do not meet standard.
Shooting in MF mode is recommended.

Then within this suggested lens chart, the lenses in question - (non-Global Vision designed) - are listed.

The section description under the header: “Operation” - states the AF “results” - (my term) - that might be encountered / when using the non-Global Vision lenses on the SD Quattro camera product.

If one reads the two (2) described descriptions - they are both - “not too specific”:

I wonder then - “What constitutes: “due to conditions” ?” =

Weather - Subject colors - Fabric - Tree leaves / bark, Water (ponds, streams, waterfalls, oceans?) - Textured buildings / bricks - wood - etc. on and on?

As to WHICH conditions MIGHT “effect” the AF ability?

The second stated object of discussion: “ shooting distance “ ?

Okay, then the fact we decide to focus (AF?) on a reasonably close object / subject - versus - medium range distance (whatever that range constitutes being - as to what measure of distance) ? - 50 - 500 feet or more - Infinity (Horizons)? Astronomy types of shooting..?

Then the Comment it is possible to shoot AF mode (but, accuracy of the AF) -

do not meet standard.

What establishes - “Standard” - what standard?

Thoughts - comments - viewpoints, are all welcomed.

Thanks for your time -

Have a nice day,

Ed

Ed,

They're telling it like it is. The GV lenses work perfectly on the sd Quattros.  The middle lot starting with the 8-16 (see below) generally work almost equally as well as the GV lenses but the third group are not at all trustworthy for AF but perfectly fine for MF.
